The Council for British Research in the Levant, The German Institute and American Center for Oriental Research Facilities:
The CBRL is a research institute located in the Jubaiha neighborhood of Amman, near the University. The CBRL has a small number of rooms, a library, workrooms for their projects, and is a small and very friendly place to visit or stay. For about 16 JD, the hostel accommodations include a small cash bar, television, and VCR for heavy-duty vegetation. We will officially be running our project out of the CBRL, so we will be picking up our mail/faxes there, and using it as a home base for the project.
You should ask your family and friends to write you at the following address:

Your Name
Dhra' Excavation Project
CBRL
P.O. Box 519
Jubaiha 11941
Amman, JORDAN

Your friends and families can also fax you at the CBRL, and the fax will be left for you in the mail. The telephone number at the Institute is 011-962-6-5341317 or 011-962-6-5332613 and the fax is 011-962-6-5337197. The CBRL will charge a fee for the use of the telephone and fax machine on all outgoing calls.
Since you're working on a project working through the CBRL, you will be required to join the CBRL as a member. Membership has several privileges, including discount hostel rates, and a membership card that is good to carry around with you as you are traveling through the countryside. In anticipation of this, be sure to bring along a few extra passport size photos of yourself. These don't have to be fancy, and if you can find a photo booth, these are a great, inexpensive way of getting a few extra pictures to bring along.
There are a few other research institutes in Amman which support archaeological projects, and the closest ones are the German Institute and the American Center for Oriental Research. Like the CBRL, both of these institutions offer hostel accommodations, and have extensive library collections to support historical and archaeological research. If you are interested in learning more about these institutes, contact on of the directors.

Where to find Help:
If you have any questions or have problems before or during your trip to Jordan, there are several people who may be able to assist you. (People in North America before May 15): please contact Ian Kuijt, phone (574) 631-3263, Fax (574) 631-5760, or email him at ian.kuijt.1@nd.edu. (People in Europe and the Near East before May 15, 2001): please contact either Ian Kuijt or Bill Finlayson, phone (962-6-5332613), Fax (962-6-5337197), or email him at director_cbrl@nets.com.jo. If you find yourself stranded in Amman for any reason during the project, please contact Nadia at the CBRL (dial 5341317 or 5332613), identify yourself and ask for directions to the institute that you can give a taxi driver. If you're out of Amman, then dial 06 as the prefix, followed by the phone numbers listed above. In some instances, and especially if you encounter any difficulties that require 'official' assistance, you should call our Antiquities Representative; it is part of his job to help us with local authorities, such as the police.
