IVY Tech Community College offers an accelerated curriculum to enable our regular full- and part-time employees to earn a Technical Certificate or an Associates in Applied Science degree by providing IVY Tech course instruction on Notre Dame’s campus.
The
Business Administration Program
provides the broad background
needed for general administrative
positions in a variety of business
environments. It
also provides an opportunity for
specialization in the area of
Management.
Placement
Testing
Both
options require that prospective
students take a placement exam
to determine their readiness for
regular program courses. Certain
scores may indicate a need for
academic enhancement study which
will also be made available.
Technical
Certificate in Business Administration
The
Technical Certificate consists
of 30
credit hours. Students
can opt to pursue a two day/week
format and complete the certificate
in one year or pursue a one day/week
format and earn the certificate
over a two-year period.
Class
Arrangements – Technical
Certificate (TC)
The University covers the costs of course fees and books.
Associates
in Applied Science in Business
Administration
The
Associates in Applied Science
degree requires the completion
of 60
credit hours of
courses outlined in the Sample
Curriculum detailed in the FAQ
section. As
with the Technical Certificate,
students may take two classes
per week. By
following the two-day per week
format, students complete the
program in two years; four years
if they pursue the one class per
week format.
Class
Arrangements – Associates
in Applied Science (A.A.S.)
The University covers the costs of course fees and books.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who
is eligible for the programs?
If
you are a full-time or part-time
employee, hourly or salary paid,
you are eligible. On-call
or temporary employees are not
eligible to participate.
What
costs are covered?
Tuition,
technical fees, and books
are paid for by Notre Dame. You
will pay for your own IVY Tech
parking pass. Notre
Dame does not pay for internet
access but computer labs are available
on ND campus, IVY Tech, and in
public libraries.
What
if I
am already enrolled in IVY Tech—can
I drop into these classes?
No. These
are designed to be part of a sequence
of classes for this degree on
ND’s
campus. Students
already enrolled at IVY Tech should
continue to use the Notre Dame
educational benefit.
Will
credits for classes I’ve
already taken count?
It
depends. Basic
courses such as English and Math
from other accredited programs
in which a C or better has been
earned will transfer in regardless
of when they were taken; i.e.,
no “expiration” date. Other “technical” courses
may not transfer in. You
should discuss your specific academic
history with an IVY Tech advisor.
What
if I don’t
get a high enough score to be
considered “program
ready” for
IVY Tech?
You
can participate in the free Math
Lab through IVY Tech and/or take
academic enhancement classes to
brush up on skills. After
participating in these readiness
classes, you can re-test at IVY
Tech again. Thereafter,
re-testing can be done once each
semester at no cost.
Can
I “test
out” of
some classes entirely?
It
can be considered. There
is an assessment test, fees and
a requirement for submitting a
portfolio. Students
should discuss this with an IVY
Tech academic advisor. Costs
for this are not covered under
this program.
What
is the application process?
You must
complete an IVY Tech application
online (or paper) and note that
you are a “Notre
Dame Employee.” You
must also submit original or stamped
copies of high school transcripts,
GED scores and any college transcripts.
In
addition, you must complete either
the Compass or Asset Placement
test UNLESS you have prior college
credit and have completed all
required English, Math, and Writing
Courses from an accredited school. You
must bring both high school/GED
and college transcripts (stamped
copies or originals) to the testing
site to confirm, which, if any
of the portions of the test they
must take.
Is
a certain GPA (grade point average)
required to continue in the program?
Yes,
in order to continue in the program
funded by Notre Dame you must
maintain a grade of C or higher
in each course. We
recognize the challenge of attending
classes while working. We
have tried to mitigate those challenges
in the design of this program
and feel the grade requirement
is reasonable.
What
if I don’t
get a “C” or
better? Will
I be dismissed from the program?
Individual
situations will be reviewed, hopefully
early enough during the eight-week
semester to provide extra support
to ensure an acceptable final
course grade. If
the final grade is below a “C,” the
person will be placed on academic
probation and receive academic
counseling and perhaps tutoring. IVY
Tech will consult with Notre Dame
regarding these situations and
recommend a course of action.
Is
there an attendance requirement?
Since
this is an accelerated program
(sixteen weeks are compressed
into eight weeks), each class
covers a significant amount of
information and missing even one
class compromises the ability
for successful course requirements
completion. You
are expected to attend every class
session. If
you have an extenuating circumstance
causing you to miss a session,
you must inform your instructor. Instructors
and the IVY Tech academic advisor
will determine whether missing
a class will impact your successful
completion of a class.
What
if I find out that I can’t
handle two classes a week? Do
I have to pay for the class if
I have to drop it? Can
I take it in the future?
You
will need to make that decision
before IVY Tech’s
withdrawal period ends which is
within one week of the first class
session and return any books in
new condition to avoid any charges.
After
the normal withdrawal period,
if you drop one of two classes,
you will be limited to one class
per semester for the next semester. If
you withdraw from both classes
during a semester, you will need
to wait for one year prior to
re-entry into the program.
If
I have a difficult personal or
work situation and need to not
take classes for a semester, can
I get back into the program? How
does this work?
Each
situation will need to be reviewed
by both IVY Tech and Notre Dame. The
intent is to enable people to
successfully complete the program,
regardless of whether it happens
within the prescribed time frame
or on a more protracted schedule. Contact
the Notre Dame program coordinator
if you need to take a break from
the program.
Notre
Dame is paying for tuition, fees
and books but what if I live in
Michigan? Is
there an added cost to me as an
out-of-state employee?
IVY
Tech has a reciprocity agreement
with the State of Michigan. There
is no additional cost for Michigan
residents who attend through the
Notre Dame program.
Will
I need a computer? What
if I don’t
have one at home?
Yes,
you will need a computer for the
IVY Tech program. If
you do not have one at home, you
have options. You
may use the computer labs on campus
at Notre Dame or at IVY Tech. You
may also consider using the computers
in your local library.
What
if I don’t
have the right versions of the
software and really need to be
able to use my home computer for
homework, etc.?
Consider purchasing
the software from Ivy Tech online
through their online bookstore www.ivytech.bkstr.com. The
Microsoft Office Suite package
costs approximately $70 plus shipping
and handling and includes
Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Access
and OneNote. If
you are office staff, you may
be able to purchase it through
the ND OIT Computer store. Go
to http://oit.nd.edu/storeThe
store is located in 103 Information
Technology Building (#1061 on
the campus map). Telephone
is 631-7477.
Will
the IVY Tech credits transfer
to another university if I want
to pursue a Bachelor’s
degree?
State
schools in Indiana accept several
IVY Tech credits towards a Bachelors
degree and most private schools
also accept those credits. The
IVY Tech academic advisor will
be able to provide more details.
Will
Notre Dame pay for me to pursue
a Bachelor degree after this?
Notre
Dame provides a tuition benefit
to its employees called the Non-ND
Tuition Reimbursement Benefit. The
benefit reimburses $1,500 in tuition
and covered fees per calendar
year.
Do
I get paid while I’m
in class?
A
non-exempt employee will be paid
for ½ of
the scheduled class time attended
at the “straight” pay
rate. The
normal work schedule may be modified
to ensure that a combination of
the actual work time and the class
time attended/paid does not exceed
40 hours per week.
What
if my supervisor tells me I am
needed on my job during class
time?
Business
needs may need to come first. Efforts
will be made to allow you to go
to class. Be
sure to notify your instructor
if you need to miss a class.
What
about new employees? Can
they participate? When? Is
there a waiting period?
At
this time there is not a “length
of service” requirement. You
can start after completing all
application requirements prior
to the start of a new cohort. New
cohorts will typically begin in
the fall.
Will
any other degrees other than the
one in Business Management be
offered?
No
other associates or bachelor degrees
in this on-campus format at this
time are anticipated. The $1,500
per year Non-ND Education Tuition
Benefit can be used for degree
programs at other schools for
other programs/degrees.
A
Masters of Science in Education
through Indiana University South
Bend is currently offered on Notre
Dame’s
campus. More
