The hall government works to maintain the unique atmosphere of its dorm. Comprised of commissioners, representatives, and the elected Hall President and Vice President, the hall government leaders are actively involved in the life of their dorm, where they plan events of all types. Each hall prepares monthly academic, social, service oriented, liturgical, multicultural, and athletic events. Whether it is through competitive intramural sports, community oriented service, or a lively social atmosphere in the dorms, hall government works on behalf of the students to make dorm life exceptional.
A select number of these recurring dorm events are designated "Signature Events" that every year attract undergraduates throughout campus. These events, many of which have been going on for decades or more, help to form the core of the Notre Dame Experience. For information on any single hall's events, use this website's events tab, or contact the residence hall directly through the membership page.
About the Hall Presidents' Council
The Hall Presidents' Council of the University of Notre Dame is the governing body of Notre Dame's residence hall governments. The Council works to prepare leaders, allocate resources, promote, and efficiently program events in each of the twenty-nine undergraduate residence halls at Notre Dame.
The Hall Presidents' Council adds supplementary funding to many residence hall events. Through student activity fees and profits from the sale of the yearly football shirt, the Council provides funding to almost all of the campus-wide signature events. Through collaboration with the Office of Residence Life and Housing, the Council operates a matching funds program that matches contributions from the individual halls for facility improvements, often to the recreational and community areas of the halls.
At several points throughout the year, the Hall Presidents' Council recognizes individual dorm achievements. These awards work to encourage extraordinary participation in the dorm communities, and also work to reward the efforts of the dorm leaders who go above and beyond. These awards lead up to the “Hall of the Year” awards that are presented at the end of the spring semester. For a listing of all current and past award winners, click here.
As the governing body of residence hall government, the Hall Presidents' Council organizes multi-dorm events and competitions. Most notably, the Hall Presidents' Council is charged with the student organization of the football pep rallies, a staple of Notre Dame home football weekends. The Council is involved in many other multi-dorm projects, such as fundraisers for the Special Olympics, campus Christmas decorating, Freshman Orientation, Junior Parents Weekend luncheons, and hall commissioner training.
