Fr. Fred Schmidt, a member of the Southern U.S.A. Province, arrived in Ahuacatlan in 1973 and continued to work there until his death in 2003 at age 94. In 1987 other priests of the same province assumed pastoral responsibility for a large parish in Monterrey. Now there is an expanding formation program and much hope for the future of Holy Cross ministry in this poorest of North American countries. At present there are 11 Holy Cross religious in Mexico.
