Holy Cross Brothers from the Midwest U.S.A. Province went to Ghana in 1957 to take over the administration of St. John's Secondary School in Sekondi. This commitment to the church and people of West Africa soon expanded to include St. Augustine's College at Cape Coast, Ghana, and St. Patrick's Secondary School in Monrovia, Liberia, this latter commitment being forced to close because of the Liberian civil war. Holy Cross sisters began mission in Ghana in 1983. The 32 Holy Cross religious presently in Ghana serve primarily in secondary level education, at an Institute for Continuing Formation of Religious, and in a Basic Skills Program giving technical education to poor and at-risk youth.
