Michael Waugh "House Coordinator":

The responsibilities of a Holy Cross Associate are comprised of two primary areas of concentration: Residence Filariose coordinator and UND Haiti Program development work. Develop and provide an orientation program for visitors to Residence Filariose. Assist in coordinating activities and fulfilling needs and logistics during their stay. Assist in management of capital resources of the house. Assist Residence Filariose manager in preparation and facilitation of daily operation procedures. Assist with writing and editing of UND Haiti Program newsletter. Assist in grant research and writing in collaboration with Program Development Manager and other UND Haiti Program employees. Assist UND Haiti Program with identification and pursuit of additional visitor groups for RF and LF program.

 

Trisha Allen "Business Assistant":

  • Primary contact and coordinator for the Mendoza College of Business, small business entrepreneurship education and global outreach program (SPECTRUM)
  • Responsible for recruiting students through establishing relationships in the local community of Leogane: including local businesses, Haitian universities, institutions, and hospital St. Croix, etc. Also, forge partnerships with Haitian, American, and International gov't agencies…including US AID, NGO's and private foundations, and Peace Corps.
  • Prepare promotional and informational literature and distribute before the seminar.
  • Research micro-lending institutions to create opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to plug into after they have completed the certified course.
  • Get involved with opportunities to support local entrepreneurs in their small business development projects: (ie. I am currently working with a group of women who are developing the strategic business foundation for a grocery cooperative…we are completing proposals to potential supporters in the states and researching some local lending agencies to provide options for financial support. This happens to be affiliated with the filariasis project, which helps to create a nice bridge between the ND business school and the project.)
  • Grant writing: identifying and researching and seeking grants towards distance learning.
  • Coordinate all logistical details for the courses/seminars, which are currently provided twice a year by professors from the University.
  • Assist in Research specific or Funding and Support oriented assignments for the Filiarisis project in the Hospital and in the guest house.
  • Part time ESL teacher/ private tutor
