Instructions for Loading SilverFonts

Susan Graham

SilverFonts are Windows fonts. This means you can print out (or type) a document with SilverFonts in the Computer Cluster. Here's how:

1.Copy SilverFonts onto the Hard drive. This makes it possible to use other diskettes in the A: drive and still type in Greek/Hebrew.
  • Bring a diskette with your whole set of Silver Fonts to the cluster.
  • In Windows, go to the File Manager. Choose File, and then Create Directory (Create "Folder" in Win95). Create your directory, preferably on Drive D: and call it "sfonts" or some other short name.
  • Still in File Manager, choose File and Copy. Copy all the files from your diskette (Drive A: ) to the D:\sfonts subdirectory (folder) you created.
  • Leave File Manager. You can take the diskette out of the A: drive now.
2.Load the Fonts into Windows. This makes it possible to see and print your SilverFonts.
  • In Control Panel, select Fonts. In Fonts, select Add.
  • In the Add menu: (1) click the box which says Copy Fonts to Windows Directory so that the X disappears. (You don't want to add these fonts to the Windows Directory.) (2) In Directory, choose your directory D:\sfonts. When you do this, the sgreek, shebrew, (coptic) and nova fonts will appear in the top box. (3) Select All. This adds your SilverFonts to the font selection (you will now be able to find sgreek, shebrew, nova, coptic in the font list).
  • Exit the Control Panel.
3.Make sure your Word Processing program is using a *Windows* printer, so you can print your fonts.
  • Open your preferred word processor and go to the Print command.
  • Select Printer. Be sure that you select the *Windows Default Printer.* (For WordPerfect, the network default in the Clusters is the *WordPerfect* Default Printer. It does not recognize SilverFonts. You will have to select the *Windows* Default Printer button.)
  • Exit the Print function. You are ready to type/print away.
4.Be kind. Clear memory (both kinds) for the next user.
  • When you are done, go back to File Manager. Delete your D:\sfonts files and Remove the Directory (Folder).
  • Exit and restart Windows. This step returns the Fonts in Control Panel to their campus default.
