This list of study aids began to be compiled in the summer of 1996, but as you can see, it's pretty thin. With your help, we'll continue to build the site this year.

Latin Course



Title: Transparent Language - Latin

Description: Inductive language learning: a Latin text is displayed along with a series of windows presenting the grammatical form of each word, its meaning and any notes attached to the word by the program or the user. There is also a vocabularly utility which takes words from the text and asks the student to fill in the missing word with the correct Latin form. The texts available for the Latin series include: Cambridge Latin Series Units 1-3; Augustine's Confessions 1,1-6; The Aeneid, bk 1; Genesis 1-3; Pliny's
Letters on Christians; and an assortment of other works. Titles can be purchased individually or in collections (including an Ecclesiastical collection). Audio cassettes can also be purchased separately. The other languages supported are: French, German, Spanish, and Italian.

Description: Using CALIS the author has created a series of computer
exercises based around the Oxford Latin Course. Each lesson is designed to take the student through various grammatical stages including the option of Latin-to English or English-to-Latin translation. The program
covers sentence construction and translation, grammatical rules and vocabulary drills.

Description: Lingua Latina tests the user on the basics of Latin 
grammar. The user may select from declensions, conjugations or pronouns. For each the user is reuired to complete each part of the noun or verb. There is the ability to reveal the correct answer before proceeding to the next. In addition, a 'quiz' option presents the user 
with a verb and requests conjugation, tense, number and person. The language in which the test is presented can be selected as English, German or Latin itself (the latter amusingly displays the imperative, "Refer me in tabulas!" on unregistered copies). There is also an on-line Windows help for Lingua Latina (which does not change language).
