Description: Dr. Joseph J. Rivlin of Bar Ilan University compared these two products. In his view, the serious researcher must use the Bar Ilan product because it has been much more carefully proofread (the CTL has at times whole lines and paragraphs missing), uses the latest critically edited text, allows a more powerful searches, and is supported by a superb team of customer service agents. The BI CD is not available for MAC, however, and is quite a bit more expensive.

Description: Permits full searching of not only the English Bible (KJV, RSV & NRSV) but also the Greek New Testament, the Hebrew Canon, the Septuagint, and the Latin Vulgate. In addition, a module containing a fully hypertext version of the Louw-Nida Greek English Lexicon of the New Testament can be purchased. The biblical texts all come packaged with Bible Windows or the software can be configured to read them from the PHI CD-ROM. Hebrew, Greek, and Coptic TrueType & Adobe Type 1 fonts are also supplied. The package includes two macros for WordPerfect for Windows. It is also compatible with other Windows based word processors such as Word for Windows or Ami Pro allowing for the easy insertion of biblical texts.

Description: BibleWorks can be used both as a search and retrieval application and as an aid for translating the Greek or Hebrew texts. The following versions of the bible are available: ASV, KJV, UBS/Nestle-Aland 26th ed GNT, CCAT-UBS tagged GNT, BHS (Hebrew), LXX, and Vulgate. In addition, the following aids are also available either as 
separate modules or embedded in the biblical texts: Strong's-Englishman's Numbers, lexical forms of Greek and Hebrew words, Thayer's Greek-English abridged lexicon, Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, and Westminster Standards.

 BibleWorks also comes complete with Linguist Software's LaserGreek Graeca font and, where required, LaserHebrew Hebraica font. BibleWorks is keen to make full use of Greek/Hebrew lexical and morphological forms in conjunction with the displayed texts (though complex searches are not easy). It also comes with an on-line hypertext help, permits wildcard/boolean searching and the export of texts to the Windows
clipboard for pasting either into a text editor supplied with the package or into a standard Windows word processor. The text editor permits the typing of Greek and English characters and right to left typing. Personal notes can be added to specific verses and concordances can also be compiled.

Description: Volume 1 will contain 3000 black and white photographs of all the scrolls, biblical and non-biblical. Description: Lexical concordance of Bible. A parser gives a grammatical description of every word. Description: Online Bible comprises a series of modules for the display and searching of English, Greek and Hebrew versions of the Bible. The package is probably the most impressive attempt to make available an inexpensive (has been described as freeware) yet scholarly bible package. The user obtains the basic display and search install software, and then adds modules as required. The additional modules include the AV/RSV,
Greek/Hebrew lexicons, topics and cross-references, BHS and Nestle 26 Hebrew and Greek versions. Searching can be performed using boolean style operators, texts can be exported for use in other documents, and personal annotations may be added to verses etc.

Description: The Advanced Study System advertises itself as a complete biblical studies database system. It has a graphics user interface running under DOS rather than Windows which permits the opening of up to ten different text windows. The basic package comes with the KJV. The following additional modules can be purchased: NRSV, Strong's Dictionary, Greek New Testament (UBS 3rd ed. including Lexical Root database and morphological tagging), and the Hebrew Bible (Text, lexical roots, morphene text and morphological tagging). Each database can be linked to view, for example, the translation of a selected Greek or Hebrew passage. The package permits multiple grammatical searches and the option of adding personal notes to biblical verses. Forthcoming are the LXX, a set of biblical maps, word-processing conversion utility, and bible commentary. The ability to link texts and add personal annotations makes this more powerful than other academic packages.
