Summer Language Study Abroad Stipend
Through the Department of German and Russian Languages and Literatures. This program provides funding toward travel, tuition, and room and board for summer language study in a German-speaking country at a language institute such as the Goethe Institute. Ideal for students who want to jump start their language learning as they pursue the major in German. Preference given to first-year students and sophomores. Deadline: February 29, 2008. Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP)
Through the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts. This program provides financial support to students who wish to engage in independent research, creative projects, or the presentation of their own research at conferences. Students may independently design their projects, or propose a project related to some aspect of the research of a supervising faculty member. Ideal for students pursuing a Senior Thesis. Undergraduate Research and Travel Grants
Through the Nanovic Institute for European Studies. The Nanovic Institute for European Studies offers up to $4,000 in research and travel grants. The grants support students who need to conduct research and spend time at libraries and archives in Europe. Ideal for students pursuing a Senior Thesis. Deadline: February 8, 2008. German-Language Summer Program in Berlin for American Journalism Students: June 9 - August 22, 2008
Through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In summer 2008 the DAAD is launching a new summer internship program in Berlin for American journalism students. Scholarships will be awarded to 20 students enrolled in a school of journalism or majoring in a journalism-related field and have at least "advanced intermediate" German language skills to take part in a structured 11-week study/internship program in Germany. 40 applicants will be invited to a selection interview in New York City (around early March) will receive up to 300 Euros toward the cost of their flight to the interview location. The 20 applicants who are finally selected for the program will be awarded a monthly stipend of 650 Euros for the duration of their stay in Germany. DAAD will also provide participants a partial travel subsidy of approximately 350 Euros towards the cost of international transportation to Germany. DAAD will also provide health and accident insurance. Deadline is February 15, 2008.

Internship Program in Germany
Through CDS International. This program provides practical training opportunities in Germany for American students and recent graduates and non-U.S. citizens enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university. Paid placements are available in business, finance, technical, and engineering fields for usually 6 (enrolled students) to 12 months (extension possible up to a total of 18 months for graduates). Programs start individually at the beginning of each month. Apply approximately 5 months prior to your desired start date. Deadline: Rolling. Young Ambassadors Program
Through the German Academic Exhange Service (DAAD). Young Ambassadors are undergraduate students from North America who have recently studied in Germany and are interested in promoting study in Germany at their home universities and colleges. After attending a training session in New York, Young Ambassadors are expected to organize at least one event per semester, where they will invite prospective students to hear about their experiences in Germany. Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE)
Through the Deutscher Akademisher Austausch Dienst (DAAD). This program provides summer internships for juniors and graduating seniors who will be enrolled in a grad program in following fall. It is open to students in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering.Students work with doctoral students in research groups at top German institutions. No previous knowledge of German necessary, but helpful in everyday life. Terms of award 650/mo. for 6 weeks to 3 months beginning between May 15th and June 30th. Deadline: January 31, 2008. EMGIP (Emigre Memorial German Internship Program) - Bundestag Internship
Through the Deutscher Akademisher Austausch Dienst (DAAD). This is a 2-month internship opportunity for advanced undergrads with some knowledge of the German legislative process who are comfortable communicating in spoken and written German. Through the Steuben-Sturz-Gesellschaft e.V. This program finds 8-12 week (up to 6 months) internships for students at American universities in Germany. Special attention is given to matching the individual qualifications of the participants with the expectations and demands of the employer. Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program
Through CDS International. This program provides young American professionals (ages 23-34 ideally with two years work experience or a master's degree) with two high-level work placements in the federal government and private sector in Germany. Three seminars taking place throughout Europe provide an in-depth understanding of issues facing Germany and the European Union today.
