Rev. Robert Dowd, C.S.C.
(B.A., University of Notre Dame; Ph.D., University of California , Los Angeles , 2003) , Assistant Professor, specializes in comparative politics and, particularly, African politics. Much of his research has been conducted in East Africa . He has published articles in UCLA's journal of African Studies, Ufahamu, and has presented several papers at the annual meetings of the American Political Science Association and the African Studies Association. Currently he is working on a book manuscript entitled "Faith in Democracy: Christianity, Islam and Political Culture in Sub-Saharan Africa". He is also preparing several articles for presentation and publication, including "Muslim Women Politics and Democratization in Sub-Saharan Africa", which will appear in the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures, "Religion and Political Participation in Africa : Opiate or Inspiration?", "Religious Institutions and Ethnic Conflict", and " Africa 's Emerging Party Systems in Comparative Perspective".
