Eric Gill (1882-1940) was an English engraver, sculptor, typographer, and writer. He was also a social reformer and his activities embraced a variety of disciplines and intellectual movements. Gill may be the most famous member of the Guild of Saints Joseph and Dominic, but he did not work alone and other guild members Hillary Pepler, David Jones, Philip Hagreen, and Edward Johnston also produced compelling creative work. The University of Notre Dame has a significant collection of the creative work of Eric Gill and his colleagues; however, the collection is unknown to scholars interested in the Arts & Craft and Distributists Movements in England.
Currently the prototype contains only a small subset of the collection as the design team works toward developing an innovative interface by which to explore the materials. |
