Alyssa Guthrie
Alyssa Guthrie is a graduate student in the Political Science Department at the University of Notre Dame. She graduated magna cum laude from Ashland University in May, 2003 with B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy. While at Ashland she completed her senior thesis, which examined the Aristotelian themes in the novels of Jane Austen and was recognized as the “Most Outstanding Senior Thesis” for her year.
Following graduation, Alyssa moved to Columbus, Ohio where she worked for the Ohio House of Representatives for two years: first as clerk to the Juvenile and Family Law Committee, and later as an aide to Representative Randy Law. With him, she helped draft legislation and formulate political strategy to enact comprehensive reform of Ohio’s landfills.
Alyssa is currently in her third year studying political theory. Her primary interests are 18th century political philosophy and feminist theory, with a special focus on the relationship between the family and the state. Alyssa will begin her 2007/2008 Gender Studies Predoctoral Fellowship this fall. Her responsibilities include teaching and academic advising.
