MISSION STATEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME

OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL

 

To provide the highest quality legal services to the University, its colleges, departments, officers and administrators in a timely manner.

  • to provide sound legal advice that assists officers and administrators in evaluating the legal risks involved in the various decisions they make on behalf of Notre Dame
  • to identify and assess risks and assist in developing policies and strategies aimed at mitigating or eliminating those risks in an effort to reduce the potential legal liability of the University
  • to help ensure the University's compliance with local, state and federal legal requirements
  • to assist the University administration in creating and administering policies and procedures designed to result in fair and equal treatment of our employees and students, and prevent unfair treatment, discrimination or harassment  of our employees and students
  • to encourage the use of alternative dispute resolution methods, as appropriate, to help resolve internal and external conflict
  • to aid the University in avoiding unnecessarily costly legal proceedings and negative publicity.
