Work Study at Notre Dame
Many prospective students inquire about how the work study program
is administered at Notre Dame. We hope to address most of the commonly
asked work study questions:
Q: How many hours a week can I work on-campus?
A: Typically, students work between 10 -12 hours per week. The maximum
number of hours/week a student can work at Notre Dame is 20.
Q: Is working on-campus required?
A: No, not if you don't want to. However every Notre Dame student
has the opportunity to work. Students who apply for financial aid
will have a self-help aid component in their financial aid package
which includes student loans and work study eligibility. Even though
a student is offered work study eligibility, it is up to the student
whether he/she wants to take advantage of it or not. If work study
is declined, this resource will not be available to assist the student
with meeting expenses related to attendance.
Q: Is Work-Study credited to the Student Account?
A: No. Students who work on campus are paid bi-weekly based upon
the number of hours worked and their hourly pay rate, and are paid
by direct deposit to their personal checking account. Generally, students
use their work study earnings to help pay for their personal expenses.
Students can, however, use their work study earnings to pay for their
student account charges if they wish.
Q: How do I find a job on campus?
A: The Job Board is available to all students. University Food Services
has many positions available with flexible scheduling. Students are
advised to review their class schedules before arranging their work
schedules to avoid conflicts.
Q: How often is the Job Board updated?
A: The Job Board is updated almost daily throughout the year. If
you decide not to work in the Fall, you can still apply for jobs in
the Spring. While opportunities for work study may be somewhat limited,
starting mid-year is definitely an option.
Q: What if I want to work in a community service role in utilizing
my work study eligibility?
A: Students who are eligible for Federal Work Study are encouraged
to investigate the many community service opportunities available
as listed on the Student Employment Job Board. Students working in
these positions are able to be paid while also serving in a public
service role.
