Description of Position

The Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences is looking for one or more responsible, self-motivated undergraduate student assistant for fall semester, with the chance of continuing in subsequent  semesters and in the summer.  The time requirement is 4-8 hours per week.
Our lab investigates novel biological and biofilm processes to treat drinking water and wastewater in a sustainable manner.  The assistant will initially help with routine lab tasks, such as cleaning glassware, preparing media, collecting samples from bioreactors, and data entry.  After initial training, the student will be paired with a graduate student for work on a specific research project.   This is a diverse lab with Ph.D. students and undergraduate students working on a range of different projects.  It is a great environment for students interested in Environmental Engineering, especially for those with interests in biological treatment processes.  There is potential for carrying out pilot-scale testing at the South Bend Wastewater Treatment plant over the summer.  Also, Hispanic and/or Spanish speaking students are encouraged to apply, as we are beginning a collaborative research project with the Catholic University of Chile.
Please send a resume, a paragraph explaining your interest in the lab and any previous research experience, and, if relevant, the name of anyone you have done research or other work with at Notre Dame to Dr. Robert Nerenberg at nerenberg.1@nd.edu.
