Short Biography

I received my Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from Florida International University under the supervision of Dr. Giri Narasimhan in 2008 and 2007 respectively. I also received a M.S. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a B.S. degree in Biotechnogy from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in 2001 and 1998 respectively. Prior to joining Notre Dame, I worked as a post-doctoral associate for one year with Dr. Mitsunori Ogihara at the University of Miami.

Research

My research interests are in the general areas of Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Data Mining. My past research projects include data mining on heterogeneous biological data, motif discovery using gene expression data and comparative genomics data, gene function prediction using protein-protein interaction data, and functional gene network prediction using gene ontology information. I am also heavily involved in projects related to microarray data analysis and promoter sequence data analysis. Currently, my research focus on developing algorithms and computational tools for high-throughput biological data including next-generation sequencing data, metagenomics data, SNPs data, and many more. My collaborators consist of researchers from both computer science and biological science. For more details about my research, please refer to my publications.

I am managing ND Bioinformatics Core Facility directed by Dr. Scott Emrich. I am also affiliated to ND Bioinformatics Laboratory and Eck Institute for Global Health as a faculty member.
