Faculty

JEREMY BLACK, MBE:
Professor of History, University of Exeter (UK), is one of Britain’s most respected historians.  He is a member of the University of Notre Dame’s International Program Faculty and a senior fellow at the Center for the Study of America and the West at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.  He is the author of over sixty books, especially on eighteenth century British politics and international relations.  He graduated from Queen's College, Cambridge, with a starred first, did postgraduate work at Oxford, and then taught at Durham as a professor before moving to Exeter in 1996. He has lectured extensively in Australasia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and the USA. He was awarded an MBE for services to stamp design.

PETER ONUF:
Thomas Jefferson Foundation Professor of History in the University of Virginia’s Corcoran Department of History and member of the University of Notre Dame’s International Program Faculty.  He received his A.B. and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University (1967, 1973).  Onuf is a leading authority on Thomas Jefferson and his age.  He is the author of “Jefferson's Empire: the Language of American Nationhood”, “Statehood and Union: A History of the Northwest Ordinance”, and “Origins of the Federal Republic: Jurisdictional Controversies in the United States, 1775-1787”.  He is the editor of “Jeffersonian Legacies”, a re-examination of Jefferson's influence today, and has co-edited and co-authored several volumes on Revolutionary and Jeffersonian America.
