George Wratney, Corporate Ombudsman,
United Technologies Corp.
Tuesday, December 3, 7 p.m., Jordan Auditorium
Mr. Wratney was named Corporate Ombudsman
for United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Hartford, CT, effective
March 1, 1996. At that time he had just completed his 20th
year of service with UTC.
He has held a variety of communications positions within the
corporation, including 14 years of media relations and product
publicity experience with UTC’s Carrier Corporation
subsidiary in Syracuse, N.Y., and six years in UTC’s
corporate headquarters as speechwriter for the corporation’s
chief executive officer.
He taught a junior-level writing course as adjunct professor
of public relations in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public
Communications of Syracuse University from 1986-1990.
He served as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine
Corps from 1966-1969. His service included 13 months in Da
Nang, Republic of South Vietnam, and he received an honorable
discharge at the rank of captain.
Wratney holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism (1966)
and a master’s in mass communications (1970), both from
Penn State. The latter occurred while on a fellowship teaching
the principles of mass communication to undergraduate students.
Wratney is a fellow of the Ethics Resource Center’s
Fellows Program, Washington, D.C., and a member of the Ombudsman
Association and the Ethics Officer Association.
