Rex and Alice A. Martin Lecture Series in Global Business Ethics
BA 311 / MBA 511, Global Business Ethics Lecture Series: Spring Semester 2003. Classes scheduled in the Jordan Auditorium. This 1.5 credit course was sponsored by Professors Thomas Klein, Patrick E. Murphy and Georges Enderle and the Institute for Ethical Business Worldwide.
This course featured corporate and other intellectual leaders discussing major ethical challenges - arising from differences in culture and legal environments and economic conditions - facing companies with global operations. Opportunities for discussion were available at each meeting. The course complements other MBA and undergraduate courses in business ethics, but was also available to any student enrolled at Notre Dame or St. Mary's.

  Course Objectives

  • To give students an appreciation for the nature and kinds of ethical challenges facing businesses with global operations.
  • To demonstrate how leading businesses deal with such issues as human rights in the workplace, environmental sustainability, religious and cultural differences, and corrupt political environments.
  • To analyze the applications of Catholic Social Teaching in the realm of international business.
  • To suggest linkages between ethics and the principal business functions - organizational leadership, human resource management, marketing, finance, and operations - in a global business environment.
