Corporate Ombudsman, both of Keyspan on April 5, 2006.

the Giovanini Commons, Mendoza College of Business.
Robert B. Catell, CEO, and Kenny Moore, Director of
Human Resources and Corporate Ombudsman, both of Keyspan,
were honored with the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C.
Award for Business Ethics and gave the Frank Cahill
Lecture and spoke on “The CEO and the Monk”.
Father Hesburgh presented the award.

| The
2005 Cahill Lecture was presented by Professor Robert
Audi on April 5, 2005.
Robert Audi joins the University
as David E. Gallo Professor of Business Ethics, Professor
of Management, and Professor of Philosophy. Audi is
author of numerous books and articles in ethics, including
Moral Knowledge and Ethical Character (Oxford University
Press, 1997), Religious Commitment and Secular Reason,
Cambridge University Press, 2000), and The Good in the
Right: A Theory of Intuition and Intrinsic Value, forthcoming
from Princeton University Press in early 2004).
He is a past president of the American
Philosophical Association, a member of many editorial
boards in ethics and related areas, and (in the years
since 1981) a Director of five National Endowment for
the Humanities Institutes and Seminars and of many shorter
seminars in ethics designed for professional school
faculty who teach in the field. He comes to Notre Dame
from the University of Nebraska, where he has served
as Charles J. Mach University Professor of Philosophy.
The 2005 Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh Award
for Business Ethics is being presented to Amy Domini,
CEO of Domini Social Investments by Father Theodore
Hesburgh. |

The 2004 Cahill Lecture
was presented by Joseph Maciariello on April 14, 2004.
Dr.
Joseph Maciariello specializes in the application
of Judeo-Christian values to the practice of management.
His lecture was titled "Management Practices at the
ServiceMaster Company and the Drucker Tradition."
The 2004 Hesburgh Award was presented to C. William
(Bill) Pollard, chairman emeritus of the ServiceMaster
Company.
Pollard joined ServiceMaster in 1977 and twice served
as chief executive officer, first from 1983 to 1993,
a time during which the company's customer level revenues
grew from $234 million to $6.4 billion, and also from
July 1999 to January 2001. He was the company's chairman
of the board from 1990 to 2002 and continues to serve
as an advisor.
ServiceMaster provides outsourcing services to more
than 10.5 million customers in the United States and
41 countries worldwide, and is the parent corporation
for companies such as TruGreen-ChemLawn, Terminix and
Merry Maids. Under Pollard's leadership, ServiceMaster
was recognized as the No. 1 service firm in the Fortune
500 and was cited as one of the magazine's most admired
companies.
Pollard was graduated from Wheaton College and the
Northwestern University School of Law. He practiced
law from 1963 to 1972, specializing in corporate finance
and tax, and served on the faculty and as a vice president
at Wheaton from 1972 to 1977.
Pollard is the author of the best-selling book "The
Soul of the Firm" and has contributed to other books
and magazines. He is co-chair and a director of UnumProvident
Corp. and a director of Herman Miller Inc. He also serves
on the boards of Central DuPage Health, Wheaton College,
The Leader to Leader Institute, and the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association.

Lecture and Hesburgh Award 2003 |

The
2003 Cahill Lecture was presented by Kenneth Goodpaster
on March 19, 2003.
Goodpaster earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics
from Notre Dame and his master's and doctoral degrees
in philosophy from the University of Michigan. Before
his appointment to the St. Thomas faculty he taught
and conducted research at Notre Dame and the Harvard
Business School, where he developed the ethics curriculum.
The
2003 Hesburgh Award was presented to William W. George,
former chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic,
Inc.
George joined Medtronic in 1989 as president and chief
operating officer and was chief executive officer from
1991-2001. He was a member of the firm's board from
1989-2002, serving as chair for the final six years.
Based in Minneapolis, Medtronic is the world's leading
medical technology company. A leading advocate
for holding board directors more accountable, George
was selected Director of the Year for 2001-02 by the
National Association of Corporate Directors, Executive
of the Year for 2001 by the Academy of Management, and
a 2002 Legend in Leadership by Yale University.
Prior to joining Medtronic, George served in executive
positions at Honeywell, Litton Industries, and as a
civilian in the U.S. Department of Navy. He earned his
bachelor's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology
and his master of business administration degree from
Harvard University. George currently is serving
as a professor of leadership and governance at the Swiss
business school IMD and as a visiting professor of technology
management at the Swiss Fédéral Polytechnique.
He serves on the boards of directors of Goldman Sachs,
Novartis and Target Corp.
