SUMMER PROGRAM

In 2006 the Institute introduced a new summer seminar program directed to upper-level undergraduates that has met with success. Two seminars were designed: one to introduce young scholars to the Catholic intellectual traditions; the other to encourage their academic vocation by surveying some of the major trends in diverse disciplines. In the two years that they have been offered, 48 intelligent and ambitious undergraduates from Catholic colleges and secular universities across the US have participated. They spend two intense weeks at Notre Dame, reading and discussing a wide range of issues revolving around the nexus of faith and reason. Their intellectual work is complemented by boisterous games of frisbee and capture-the-flag, a weekend excursion to Chicago, visits to the Grotto, and opportunities for daily Mass. Because of the close friendships that have been forged and sustained among the participants, we are optimistic that this program will engender a new generation of scholars eager to explore and contribute to the intellectual traditions of Catholicism. We look forward to hosting a new cohort of undergraduates in June 2008.
