Assessment of the success of this program and its impact
on student learning outcomes will be done in conjunction
with existing assessment activities at all three
Universities involved in this project. An assessment plan
has three components:
goals,
measures, and
feedback.
The goals of this work are to give students an appreciation
of the environmental regulations and environmental
consequences of chemical engineering, and for students to
understand basic methods for minimizing environmental
impact. The measures of these goals will be a function of
the assessment plans at the three Universities. These
measures will include senior-year individual and group
design projects with an environmental component,
questionnaires to students and alumni that will be modified
to include additional components relevant to pollution
prevention, and interviews with students which will include
environmentally-related questions. Additional measures may
be added as the project progresses. Finally, the feedback
component for continuous improvement will involve keeping
faculty who are using both the environmentally-related
design projects and homework problems aware of success
observed in achieving the stated goals. Continuing
assessment and corrective action will ensure that the
goals of this project are achieved.
