Current undergraduate students may volunteer to become an integral part of the Women's Engineering Program:

Dorm mentor community coordinators organize dorm-based activities for women engineering students to develop a community of support and to provide academic and career guidance for underclass students. This opportunity is open to juniors or seniors only. Although we'd prefer this to be an on-campus position, you may volunteer for your old dorm if you no longer live on campus.

E-pen pals for high school students serve as mentors to help high school girls around the country learn more about engineering education and about Notre Dame. Most of these relationships will develop initially through e-mail contact, and mentors should be prepared to respond to e-mail inquiries from these high school students in a timely manner.

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) committee members assist SWE in developing programs and activities to enable women engineering students to learn more about the practice of engineering and about studying engineering at Notre Dame. SWE also plans to help local Girl Scout troops earn technology badges and is contemplating other community service projects. Ms. Wizard Day, held every spring, provides girls in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades in the South Bend Community Schools Corporation with an opportunity to learn about engineering and science. The program needs volunteers to coordinate a variety of activities -- from planning the experiments and projects for the daylong event to designing the free t-shirt given to participants. Expand Your Horizons (EYH) is geared toward middle- and high-school girls. This annual event gives girls a glimpse of math, science, and technology-related careers. To learn how you can help, e-mail the EYH program coordinator, Karen Morris, at kmorris@nd.edu.
