A
senior in the Department of Civil Engineering and Geological Sciences,
Meghan Myers spent the summer between her sophomore and junior
year in Japan as part of the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
Program at Notre Dame. As an REU, Meghan worked in the Earthquake Engineering
Laboratory developing a program called "Shakes and Quakes,"
an outreach program for local elementary and middle school students. During
the two weeks she was in Japan, Meghan traveled to six different cities,
toured the Akashi Kaikyo bridge, Landmark Tower, Nojima fault, and earthquake
laboratory facilities at Kyoto University. She also participated in two
symposiums, something usually reserved for faculty and graduate students.
