The Women's Engineering
Program provides girls interested in engineering, technology, and science
the opportunity to develop a relationship with women who have more experience
in the field of engineering, whether that person is a current undergraduate
student, a graduate student, or an alumna. Through these relationships
young women can learn more about engineering as a field of study while
receiving helpful advice on developing a fulfilling educational program
and career path.
High school and middle school students may participate in the following
ways:
E-pen pal
Your Notre Dame mentor will be either a current undergraduate or graduate
student. She will serve as a resource for you ... answering questions
you have about engineering, what kind of courses you need to take, what
types of research opportunities are available, what kind of jobs are open
to women engineers, what it's like to be a woman engineer, etc. Most of
your contact with your student mentor will be through e-mail.
We will do our best to match you with a student mentor who has experience
in the area(s) you are interested in, which is why it is important to
be as specific as possible in your request for a mentor. But if you're
not sure, that's okay too
Alumna
mentor
The Women's Engineering Program has a list of nearly 200 alumnae who have
volunteered to be mentors. Most of them will mentor current engineering
students, but some will be able to make contact with girls in their local
communities. This mentor relationship would likely include a scheduled
tour of their company or a women's engineer night at a local alumni club.
There are also several experiential programs available to girls interested
in engineering. Check under the RESOURCES button for information on these
activities.
