First Year of Studies in Engineering
All
students admitted to Notre Dame are admitted first to the University. During
their first year, each student then enters the First
Year of Studies. Here the student will have one
academic year of basic collegiate studies before entering a department
within the College of Engineering.
Before
beginning the First Year, a student is asked to make a tentative
declaration of his or her intended major. A first-year student
who declares an intention to major in the College of Engineering
will be scheduled into the classes illustrated in the chart
on the right. In the spring of the First Year, with three-fourths
of an academic year completed, a student meets with his or
her advisor and any appropriate faculty and officials to make
a decision as to the department and college in which the student
chooses to major. If the student is in good standing, approval
will be given. |
Most first-year engineering students have a schedule that looks something
like this: |
