Logging in for the First Time

Right Click and Open a Terminal.
Type /etc/vmware/vmware_first_time and then Press Enter.
Double Click on the Windows XP Icon.
Click Connect after Selecting Local Host.
Just log into Windows like normal now.
Next time just start with the icon.

Return Visits

Repeat Steps 3-5

****IMPORTANT****

For YOUR SECURITY after you are done LOG OUT of Windows. Then press [Shift] + [Alt] to exit full screen mode. Then Log Out of Linux. Not logging out can result in a STOLEN user ID.
Do Not Shut Down Windows as it will slow down the machines for future users.

Switching between Windows and Linux

1. To move in and out of the full screen Windows environment to use Linux press [Shift] + [Alt] (If this doesn't work try [Ctrl] + [Alt]). This will exit the full screen and allow you to work in Linux.
2. To get Windows back to full screen click the Full Screen button near the top of the screen in the VMware Server Console.

Using USB devices with VMware

USB devices can only be used by one operating system at a time. If you are using it with Linux then it cannot be used simultaneously with Windows and vice-versa. To switch the operating system that the USB device appears in follow these steps.

Getting USB in Windows

1. Make sure that Windows is currently running before attempting to move the USB device.
2. When the USB device is first plugged in it will be mounted (added) to Linux and should appear on the desktop. If not already out of full screen mode press Shift + Alt.
3. In the VMware Server Console near the top of the screen there are a series of Tabs (File, Edit, View, etc.). Select VM --> Removable Devices --> USB Devices --> (your device).
4. From now until you log out that device will only be recognized by Windows unless you switch it back.

Getting USB back on Linux

1. This can be done with both VMware Server Console (Windows) running or once you have exited the console.
2. If VMware and Windows are still running go near the top of the screen after exiting full screen mode (Shift + Alt) like when you added the device to Windows and select VM --> Removable Devices --> USB Devices --> (your device). It should be the one with the check mark next to it.
3. Now remove the USB from the computer and reinsert it.
4. If Windows has been shutdown and you have exited the VMware Server Console, remove the device and reinsert it and it will automatically be mounted.

***Note that if you restart Windows the device will be immediately unmounted as it remembers the settings and the device being added in Windows.***
