FindText@ND is a new library service that:

3. Why don't I see the FindText@ND button in Web of Science or Silverplatter databases and Compendex?
In Web of Science the button which engages the FindText@ND service will look like SFX Button for the next few months. SFX is the generic name for the FindText@ND service, but the SFX button functions exactly the same way as the FindText@ND button.

For Silverplatter databases and Compendex, look for the hot-linked text FindText. Clicking on this text functions exactly the same way as the FindText@ND button does.

6. Where does the electronic fulltext in FindText@ND come from?

  • We purchase nearly 5,000 'true' electronic journals directly from the publishers. Examples include JSTOR, Elsevier ScienceDirect, Kluwer, and many more.
  • Some electronic fulltext comes from fulltext databases, also called aggregators. Examples inlcude Academic Search Elite, Expanded Academic Index, ABI Inform Global, and many more.

7. Why doesn't FindText@ND fulltext option take me directly to the article?

We try to get you as close to the fulltext article as possible, but in some cases you may be taken to:

  • a table of contents screen for a journal title; you will need to navigate to your issue and article.
  • the main database search screen if the fulltext comes from a fulltext database (see #6); you will have to do a search by journal title and date.

8. Why is there sometimes no fulltext option in the FindText@ND menu?

Sometimes electronic fulltext is not available because:

  • Notre Dame does not subscribe to fulltext versions of that journal.
  • no electronic fulltext is available anywhere.
  • journal titles contained in some fulltext databases do not work with FindText@ND; check the eJournal Locator for the most complete list of electronic journal titles.

9. Why do I sometimes get a "Sorry, no matching records" message when I clicked on the
    " ND Libraries Catalog" option?

Choosing this option should take you directly to a matching catalog record if we own the item. If no matching records appears, then you can click on the "Request document via Notre Dame Interlibrary Loan."
