A Brief History
UCD traces its origins to the Catholic University of Ireland, which was founded in 1854 with John Henry Newman as its first Rector. It has grown from its modest beginnings to a ten faculty institution with over 18,000 students. It is situated on a large, modern campus about 4km to the south of the centre of Dublin.

JYA Arts
There is a special registration day for international students during which you will be briefed as to the course selection process and departmental meetings. You must take classes in the two subjects you selected, which should appear on your acceptance letter. You must take 5/6 UCD units in each subject, please note this my vary by department. Your schedule must be approved by Katie Keogh before you complete the registration process. It is sometimes possible to change departments, but NOT faculties. If you wish to change subjects, please contact Frieda Savage once you arrive on campus. Make sure you try out a few classes before finalizing which course to take. You will have two weeks in which to decide on your course selections. Some subjects carry over pre-requisites before taking a course. Once you have selected your courses, you should fill out a form listing your classes and turn it into the JYA Arts Office. This information will be used to generate your UCD 'transcript' so make sure the information is 100% accurate. Please inform both Frieda and Katie Keogh of any changes during the term.

JYA students have have option of taking up to 2 courses at the Keough Centre. Every student must take the Introduction to Ireland course. JYA Commerce
JYA Commercec students must take 3 courses at UCD. You will collect yoru timetable for the semester on the first day of lectures at the JYA Commerce orientation meeting (please consult calendar for time and location). The timetable will list all the commerce classes offered during each semester, their times and meeting locations. There is a specific timetable for JYA (international) students. Try out a selection of courses before deciding which ones you will take. You have two weeks to decide on your final course selections. You will need to submit a course registration form to the JYA coordinator once you have chosen your courses. Please note hat this information is then used to generate your UCD 'transcript' so make sure it is 100% accurate. Please inform Enda Carroll and Katie Keogh of any changes during the semester.

In general, commerce students should take BCA (listed as Macroeconomics) in the Fall Semester and Managerial Economics in the Spring. Applied Macroeconomics is also offered in the spring.

JYA Science
JYA Science students will complete 3 courses at UCD (3-4 credits each, depending on lab requirements) in addition to their 2 required courses at the Keough Centre, one of which must be the Introduction to Ireland course. Information on courses offered in each semester is available from Dr. Claudia Kselman in the International Study Programmes office at Notre Dame. You will need to email Ms. Sue Philpott (sue.philpott@ucd.ie) with the courses you wish to take prior to attending UCD in your relevant semester. Ms. Philpott will then inform you as to any restrictions you might face in your course selection.

Once you arrive on campus, please contact Ms. Marie Lawlor in the International Students Office (located in the Admin. Building) regarding the UCD registration process and orientations for your semester at UCD.

JYA Engineering
JYA Engineering students must consult Prof. John Uhran regarding their possibile course selections at UCD, prior to their departure from Notre Dame. Engineering students will then consult with their departmental advisor at UCD upon arrival regarding registration of courses and course selections. Engineering students ill take at least 2 courses at the Keough Centre, one of which will be the Introduction to Ireland course offered on Monday evenings.
