"D" and Under
If necessary, this competition will be fenced after the conclusion of the relevant
U16 and "C" and under events. All U16 qualifiers are automatic for D2 if otherwise
eligible, and all D2 qualifiers are automatic for D3, if
otherwise eligible. If we hold a separate D3 qualifier, we get three extra D3
qualifiers in addition to the other qualifiers. Thus, if there is anyone left who
hasn't qualified for D3 by another path, and who wants to, and a separate D3
event would result in additional IN Division qualifiers, we'll run that event
too!
Times are close of registration, E.D.T. (Same time as New York). Events are open only to Indiana
Division members of USFA. (You may join at the venue.) This is a qualifying
event for the Summer Nationals; there are no alternate qualifiers. Therefore,
only those who intend to compete in the Summer National Championships
should enter. You must meet USFA age requirements
to fence at this tournament.
Automatic Qualifiers
A list of automatic qualifiers should be posted soon on the www.USFencing.org
website. If you're on the list, you're already qualified!
Entry Fee:
- $10 First weapon/category
- $5 Subsequent weapons/category
*"C" & Under event: Open only to fencers rated "C" and below.
- Top 3 or 25% rounded up finishers qualify for the Division II Summer Nationals.
- Top 3 or 25% rounded up rated "D" and below will qualify for Division III Summer Nationals.
Under some circumstances we may be able to qualify additional D3 fencers with a
separate "D" and under competition. If this is the case, then D3 qualification
will occur in that event, rather than direct (as opposed to the indirect D2
path) qualification in the "C" and under event.
- All veteran competitors qualify for Veteran events at Summer Nationals
- Fencers must be born 1992 or earlier, or be on the current Junior point list to compete.
- According to the USFA website, all fencers who are "C" and under, and who qualify for the Division 1A, U16, or U19 Individual National Championships (e.g., either via automatic qualification or through divisionals or sectionals) also qualify for Division II provided they meet the age restriction above.
- Fencers who qualify for Division II by any path also qualify for Division III provided they are "D" or under.
**Under 16: Open only to fencers who were born 1990 or later. Note that
according to the USFA, if you were born after 1993 you will have to have Y14
points to qualify to fence in the U16 event at Nationals even if you were to have
finished high enough to qualify in this tournament. Fencers on the Cadet point list automatically qualify. Fencers who qualified for the U19 event at Sectionals now
automatically qualify for the Cadet event
- Top 3 or 25% qualify for Under 16 Summer Nationals.
**Youth-14: Open only to fencers who were born 1991 or later. Note that
according to the USFA, if you were born after 1994 you will have to have Y12
points to qualify to fence in the Y14 event at Nationals even if you qualify
based on this tournament. Fencers on the Y14 list automatically qualify.
- Top 3 or 25% qualify for Youth-14 Summer Nationals.
To qualify for the Youth12 and
Youth10 categories this year you must be either on the appropriate point list, or
have competed in a regional or super-regional youth tournament. The list of
such tournaments is given on the www.usfencing.org website.
The complete rules for qualifying to national tournaments are located on the
www.usfencing.org website (the athlete's handbook).
Close of registration for U-19, D1, and Open team events for Summer National
Championships is the same time as for the "C" and under event. Indiana has never
sent more than two teams per weapon to Nationals. We can qualify four teams.
Clubs wishing to qualify a team must let me know via email, phone, or at the
tournament by the close of registration. In the extremely unlikely event that we
actually have to run the competition (e.g., if more than four clubs sign up), we
will run it the following weekend, and registrants will be notified.
