RCA Presidential News
We're still cheering for the CHILI CHAMP
of Roseland. Dorothy Gee of David St. challenged six other culinary
artists and came out #1 chili cook in the RCA February meeting Chili Supper/Contest.
Frank
Huderwitz, Sam McCombs, Lorraine Backer, Glen Klopfenstein, Frank Suski
and Ella Riffel were our other contestants with
Sam McCombs
edging out Frank Suski for second place. A trophy and ribbons were
awarded to our winners, and a big thank you goes to those who donated the
wonderful deserts that completed the meal. The event was fun and well attended.
We hope to plan another event soon... maybe a pie contest along with another
dinner.
Be sure to attend the March 23 meeting
at 7:00 PM. Dr. NileshPatel of the Memorial Family Practice
will be our guest speaker on "Heart Healthy" and there will be blood sugar
and blood pressure tests available. Any former (or present) nurses out
there who might be interested in assisting would be gratefully appreciated.
Circle your calendars now, and see you there!
NEED A RIDE? Anyone who would like to attend
a meeting, but for some reason cannot drive, please call for a lift! (Ella
Riffel - 233-8329 or Frank Huderwitz 271-8803)
Or check with a neighbor to see if they
are attending -- car pooling can be fun!
Mailing list & Town Directory

or addressed to occupant let us know (Ella Riffel- 233-8329). We
would like to update our mailing list and the town directory.

______________ Support and Contributions
No visible means of support.... RCA mails
a newsletter to all the citizens of Roseland (in the hope to keep the town
informed) and to bring the neighbors together -- to make Roseland a better
place to live. We can only do this if we have financial support of all
those who are able. Every little bit helps. Contributions are coming in,
but we still have many more to hear from.
In addition, we need the support of everyone
to participate in meetings, give ideas / suggestions, and to help get things
done. We have great people in this town so let's show how we can pull together.
Please mail your donations to the RCA, or you can bring them to the meetings.
The May Meeting
May 25 - 7:00 pm, Northern Indiana
Historical Society representative will tell us about the history of Roseland
and Clay Township. Bring your Roseland pictures, artifacts, "good old days"
stories, and don't forget your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anyone with something to contribute to this program contact Ella Riffel
(233-8329). We will set up table to display photos and artifacts -- so
bring them to the town hall the week before so they can be organized. Be
sure to clearly mark your items so they can be returned after the meeting.
Start looking NOW!
The town council wants you to know that
the town hall has now been equipped with an automatic door for those who
are physically disabled. The town hall restrooms also have been changed
for handicapped accessibility.
There will be headaches galore as the reconstruction
of 31/33 continues, but consider how long we have waited for this highway
improvement. The overhead bridge across 31/33 will be torn down and the
entrance/exit from the toll road will be redesigned. The bridge near Kent
Street will also be torn down. An expected closure of the interchange into
Roseland will be 25 days beginning April 18. Construction will be around-the-clock
for speedy completion. The noisiest work will be done during the daytime
with limited hauling of debris during the night-time.
Complaints about roving Rovers! Be warned
if your dog runs loose, a new contract has been signed with the Humane
Society and they will be called for animals who are not leashed or on their
owner's property.
[Editor's note: This is a good reason
to make sure you have your 1995 town animal license -- this will help to
get your pet returned if he/she gets loose and is nabbed by the Critter
Cops.]
Register to vote at the town hall. Town
clerk, Gladys Riffel can register voters during regular town hall
hours, daily 8:00-4:00pm but Wednesday & Fridays 8:00-Noon. Call for
more information: 272-6475.
Ten-year veteran, Captain Bill Ashley
-- RPD, has resigned effective March 17th to accept a position on the Walkerton
Police Department at a higher rate of pay. The RCA wishes him well in his
new position, and appreciates all that he has done during his years of
service in Roseland.
Vi Blasko has agreed to replace
Harry Nowak on the town park board. She will join remaining board:
Larry
Bybee, Donald and Joan Sporleder.
[Editor's note: Contact us with your
news -- we can't print it if we don't know it!! Let us know: Ella Riffel,
233-8329; Dorothy Paul, 272-3033; Charles Shields, 272-6377.]
