Our Marshal SUSPENDED!!!
Is this anyway to treat a 15 year public servant of Roseland???
RCA Presidential News
At a very emotional March meeting of the
RCA, the majority of those in attendance voiced their opinions regrading
the news of the 45 day suspension of the town Marshall, Charlie Kuskye.
There were, of course, several who agreed with the town council's 2 to
1 decision; however, it was quite apparent their adjudication of the matter
did not sit to well with the majority of Roseland residents. In a decisive
vote, a petition has been circulating Roseland to show support for Marshal
Kuskye and asking the council to rescind the 45 day suspension. The petition
was presented to the town council at their April 13 meeting, listing 167
names.
SPRING IS HERE... and it's time to think
about our yards and gardens. PLAN to be at the APRIL RCA MEETING when Joseph
Barone of the
Ginger Valley Landscaping & Designs will be our
guest speaker. He will give us helpful hints on how to improve our yards
for our enjoyment. There are plenty of areas in our town that are in dire
need of sprucing up... and the rest of us might like a fresh idea for our
own spot of beauty. REMEMBER -- Different day!! April 26 at 7:00pm.
Because two board members are unable
to attend the April meeting of the RCA, the meeting will be moved to
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26 at 7:00pm. Please try to attend. Thereafter, the
meetings will be held on their usual day -- the 4th Thursday of each month.
Remember to dig-out any old pictures
or artifacts from Roseland's early days. Our History of Roseland
meeting is scheduled for May 25. Your items will be ON LOAN unless
you indicate your wish to contribute the items. I would be desirable to
have them a few days in advance in order to display them properly. All
items should be marked with your name, address and telephone number. The
framing has been completed of the pictures, etc. which were earlier displayed
at the town hall. Our "historian" Ella Riffel has also advised us that
the scrapbook is almost completed also. Contact Ella at 233-8329 to arrange
getting your contributions to the townhall since the Clerk does not keep
regular hours.

An Opinion
Residential development --
If feel that any positive future for the
town of Roseland will depend upon new residential home development, although
I am not sure that it is still possible. I expressed this view when I was
a member of the short lived Redevelopment Commission. I feel the need to
mention the subject again. As a senior citizen I can honestly say that
my concern is only for the future of the town.
I am confident that research would show
that the town has had significant decreases in population, the number of
home owners who reside here, the number of children, and the total number
of homes. Likely it would be found that a number of our former family owned
residential homes are now rental properties or businesses. Those who have
lived here long enough, will recall the many families' homes that used
to line both sides of the highway.
Some may suggest that the only possible
solution to this problem would be if the town could annex some surrounding
land areas. Although this effort could be made, it would not likely succeed.
I think the only practical answer, even if limited,
cont. on back
After a number of RCA members walked their
neighborhoods obtaining signatures on petitions to remove the 45 day suspension
imposed on Marshal Charlie Kuskye recently, one hundred sixty-seven
signatures were presented to council President Charles Landesman.
Another page of signatures could not be submitted due to the fact they
had suffered water damage and all signatures were smeared/obliterated.
When Charles Landesman entered a motion to reinstate ourMarshall,
due to the lack of a quorum, the motion died without a second. Again, the
wishes of the majority of the people was ignored by the junior council
member and one, who apparently didn't have the gumption to attend the
meeting and vote the will of the people. Perhaps those who do not want
to serve the town of Roseland, doing what is best for Roseland, should
resign (whether new or old council member)?
It has been reported that Mrs. Hable
stated she was sorry she voted in favor of suspension, but when confronted
she stated that she would simply abstain from any vote.
The majority of the roomful of Roseland
residents were in support of Marshal Kuskye, and angry at the display
of arrogance shown by Sam McCombs, an elected official, in his disregard
or should we say his insubordinate attitude towards the people who
put him in office.
It is sincerely hoped that each Roseland
voter will remember this on Caucus Day (Roseland's primary in August) when
two council members and the clerk-treasurer positions will be nominated
for the fall election.
Watch for announcements of the meeting
date and time. BE THERE!!CHOOSE WISELY!!! Perhaps a change in all
positions is required. It might be in the interest of the whole town for
the fall election to leave party politics outside and vote entirely on
the merit of the individual. We MUST elect our government leaders for their
knowledge, concern, and wishes for the best for the town citizens. BEING
AN INFORMED VOTER is the only way that we can correct our current town
problems.

Cont. from front: Opinion
would be to build upon the
vacant town land and to do what can be done to improve any sub-standard
housing. At the very least, the town government should give no further
approvals to changing any residential properties to commercial. Finally,
I would suggest the RCA and the town government work together to study
and research this subject; and also make every possible effort to bring
together vacant land owners, home builders, and home buyers. Then if nothing
can be done, we can at least say it was not because of the lack of effort.
