Part I: Calculate by hand.

1. Suppose you are examining the number of years of education across race. Assume the population standard deviation for Blacks and White years of education is the same. You sample 100 Blacks and 150 Whites and in your sample you find the average years of education for Blacks is 11.5 and White is 12.4. The standard deviation in your sample for Blacks is 1.3 and for Whites is 2.7. Is there a significant difference in means?
