The MURI (Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative) Center for Materials Chemistry in the Space Environment seeks to develop a quantitative and predictive understanding of how materials evolve or become passivated in the space environment. Through the support of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), the MURI team of investigators is employing experimental, theoretical and synthetic methods to address the underlying chemical and physical issues which are needed to predict materials oxidation and degradation in the low-earth orbit (LEO) environment.
