Sustained Dialogue's membership is divided into "dialogue" groups, each with 10-12 people. Every group meets twice a month to discuss racial issues under the direction of 2 student moderators. Each group creates its own agenda of issues to explore with the moderators leading them through the proven SD 5-stage process. Developed from hundreds of hours in unofficial dialogue between Americans and Soviets and between Israelis and Palestinians, it uniquely lays out the process of changing human relationships.
- Organize. Go to meetings and open up to the group. Deciding to participate is already one step in the right direction.
- Download. Talk about your personal experiences as you start to build trust within your group. Describing the campus environment will help get everything off your chest and leave room for growth.
- Identify. Find the most troublesome problems during the meeting dialogues. Examining each selected problem in detail lets you answer the important questions of why things are the way they are and how you could change them.
- Create. Ask yourself how you can make the most visible impact to alleviate the problem. Building a course of action will allow the group to spread its enlightenment to others.
- Perform. Doing something, anything, will affect more people than you think. Attacking the problem with determination and ardor will drive home your message and hopefully create lasting change.
