In the table at the top of
page 59, the three "Output destinations" should be: Replen. 1, Replen.
2, and Replen. 3.
Resources:
There is a subtle difference between how the book says SimQuick
handles resources and how they are actually handled. Suppose a number of Work Stations
share a resource and one of them finishes working. The book claims that the resource next
goes to the highest priority Work Station that is idle, has all its
inputs, and is not blocked (hence, the Work Station that just finished
can retain the resource). What actually happens is that the
resource goes to the highest priority different Work Station that is idle, has all its inputs, and
is not blocked. (This issue was pointed out by Robert Vinglas, who was a student
of Parthasarati Dileepan at the University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga.)
I have a different version of
SimQuick that works as claimed in the book. If you are a SimQuick
user and would like a copy, I'd be happy to send you one. Using
the different version yields slightly different answers to exercises 10
and 22. The other exercises that use resources are unaffected. Of
course, all models without resources are unaffected by this issue.
