Daniel G. Groody is a Catholic priest, a Holy Cross
religious, a scholar, teacher, and an award winning author and film producer. He is
currently an Assistant Professor of Theology and the
Director of the Center for Latino Spirituality and
Culture at the Institute for Latino Studies at the
University of Notre Dame. He spent many years working
in Latin America, particularly along the U.S.- Mexican
Border, and is the author of various books and articles which have been
translated into five languages, including "Border of
Death, Valley of Life: An Immigrant Journey of Heart
and Spirit", and
"Globalization, Spirituality and Justice: Navigating
the Path to Peace" (2007). He is also editor of two books, "The Option for the Poor in
Christian Theology" (2007), and co-editor of "A Promised
Land, A Perilous Journey: Theological Perspectives on
Migration" (2007).
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre
Dame in the Great Books Program (Liberal Studies), a Master
of Divinity and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the
Jesuit School of Theology, and a doctorate in theology from
the Graduate Theological Union. For 2007-2008 he will be a
visiting research fellow at Oxford University at the
Oxford Refugee Centre. He is also the
executive producer of various films and documentaries,
including Strangers No Longer and Dying to Live: A Migrant’s Journey,
which has been accepted into various international
film festivals, won national awards, and has aired on
PBS. He teaches courses in U.S. Latino Spirituality,
Globalization, Christian Spirituality and Social
Justice, and lectures widely in the United States as
well as Latin America, Europe and Asia.
