Old News from August 2011
News - August 31st 2011 - 4.2.2 Patch Notes The only news today is what was in the 4.2.2 patch that went live yesterday. I'm pretty sure I've already posted these notes a while back, but I'm doing it again just in case. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 30th 2011 - Zipping Through Northrend We've got some hotfixes to look over. Nuthin' to scream and cheer about. And it seems that in patch 4.3 it will take much less time to level up from 71 to 80. Not something that a level 81+ really cares about but it'll be great for anyone leveling up an younger alt through Wrath content. Yup, the slow news days are back. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 29th 2011 - A Boring Start To The Week It looks like we'll probably be getting patch 4.2.2 tomorrow. This is nothing to get excited about though since 4.2.2 is pretty much just tweaks and bug fixes. But it does mean one step closer to patch 4.3. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 26th 2011 - A New Faire Is Coming It looks like the Darkmoon Faire is going to be getting a seriously needed upgrade in patch 4.3. The entire event is getting changed including where it can be found during the first week of every month. The faire is getting its own island, new tickets for new gear and goodies, a free-for-all deathmatch ring like the Gurubashi Arena, new heirloom gear, some old armor sets to help with your Transmogrification needs, new games, new activities, new vanity pets, and more. This will be a nice change to the boring old faire we've seen all these years. If you happen to use the WoW Mobile Armory app you may be pleased to hear that there's a new verion out and it has a lot of new and updated features in it. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 25th 2011 - Some Major Guild Progression Let me start by bringing up something that Dktrav mentioned last night. Apparently my mentioning yesterday that we hadn't even cleared the first tier of Cataclysm raiding really had an effect on people, cuz last night we made that comment obsolete. We'd intended to spend the evening working on killing Nefarian, but 30 minutes later he laid dead at our feet. Woot! Guild first! Since that took us no time at all we placed a vote and decided to go try out Throne of the Four Winds. Despite the fact that many in the group had little to no previous TofFW experience, an hour later Al'Akir was also slain! Double woot! Double guild firsts! And since we had already beaten Cho'gall that meant we finally got the Guild Glory of the Cataclysm Raider achievement which also unlocked the ability for the guild to buy the Dark Phoenix mount. It also meant a number of people in the group finishing their Defender of a Shattered World achievement and getting their new title. And it was all done in less than 2 hours. It was a very good evening for Yilithors Shadows. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 24th 2011 - Follow Ups To Previous News Before I get to today's news I must point out that the Firelands raid is not someplace we can just waltz into and kick some butt. We never cleared all of the first tier of Cataclsym raiding, let alone worked on the heroic modes, so every single little thing that you can do to improve yourself will make a difference. With that in mind, please do not show up to a Firelands raid while missing enchantments and/or gems on your gear. We have plenty of guildies who can help you get either of those things done, and all you have to do is ask. Thank you. Now then, let's go back to some previous news bits and add to them. Grayswindir has added a few more sites to go to if you're interested in seeing what you can do when Transmogrification goes live in patch 4.3. Thanks Gray! We've got a better idea of what yesterday's news about Blizzard saying 'the next expansion should be released with a "meaningful difference" in the release timeline compared to previous expansions' means. Blizz is aware that they've only been releasing expansions about once every 2 years, and the meaningful difference is them wanting to shorten that considerably. So we could be seeing the next expansion much sooner than originally expected, possibly even sometime next year. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 23rd 2011 - Patches 4.3, 4.4, And More Since Gamescon is over MMO-Champion has compiled all the new WoW info that was gleaned from it. The info on patch 4.3, including news that there will be a patch 4.4 but it will be a world event, and the next expansion should be released with a "meaningful difference" in the release timeline compared to previous expansions. No clue what the hell that's supposed to mean. Non-patch news includes no more gold sinks coming soon since there's a huge difference in the amount of gold players have now, some are rich some are poor, and if they add a new gold sink they're afraid the poor will miss out. Below that, in the same link, are some more blue posts discussing transmogrification. Blizz has already changed their mind from yesterday's post on letting heirloom gear be transmogrified. Now you can, but with some limitations. And J!NX's Fall 2011 apparel line is now available. I'm not as thrilled about the new shirts they added, but that's just me. Maybe you'll see something you like. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 22nd 2011 - Even More On Void Storage And Transmogrifying Today all I've got is even more information regarding Void Storage and Transmogrification. Among this info are the answers to some questions like can you Transmogrify BoA gear, and can you place tabards into Void Storage. Yes, a short post today, but I'm overwhelmed at work. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 19th 2011 - More On Void Storage And Transmogrifying Even more Transmogrification and Void Storage news today. We've got the official preview of Void Storage which includes some mentioning of a new search feature that will also be included and will work with your bags/bank as well. With the reveal of Transmogrification a lot of questions about what can and cannot be done with it are popping up. Blizzard is nice enough to step forward and start answering some of those questions for us. It's sad to hear that you won't be able to transform your gear to use the look of Legendary items nor silly items like Dark Herring fish daggers. Speaking of Transmogrification, Grayswindir has provided us with a link on the forums to a site called The Visual Roleplay Gear List that could be fun and handy to use when the new feature goes live. The site was originally created to help roleplayers collect gear that would let them take on certain special looks (like how to dress like an Innkeeper or Draenei guard), but with Transmogrification this site will become useful to a lot more players who just want to have some fun with their Transmogrified appearance. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 18th 2011 - We're Gonna Taka A Ride On Ol' Deathwing Today we've got two posts detailing the new stuff coming in patch 4.3 that we learned about yesterday. I won't go into all the details, I'll let you browse through it all at your liesure, but I will say we're going to be getting a lot closer to Deathwing than we ever thought we would. And it does look like 4.3 will be the final content patch of Cataclysm, which means either 4.3 will not be released for quite a while, or the next expansion is well underway and will be released earlier than expected, or there actually will be a patch 4.4 to tide players over until then (think the unexpected appearance of the Isle of Quel'Danas prior to Wrath). We've also got the official preview of Transmogrification. It looks like it will not be a premium service, but it will cost a nice chunk of gold every time you want to use it just like reforging. They are putting a number of limitations on the feature as well. And since I play a druid I just have to post this little pic since it's the first thing I thought about when I heard about the new Transmogrification feature. And to go along with Transmogrification we've got a few more details about the Void Storage as well. Looks like there will be 80 slots for holding your old gear, but anything you put in will lose all enchants and gems. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 17th 2011 - Some News, And It's Good News Too Another burst dam of news, which of course means that there will probably be nothing to mention tomorrow, so I'm gonna hold back a little just in case. We'll start today off with some hotfixes. There's a big change to tank threat and their survivability with Vengeance. And most of the rest is just minor nerfs to Firelands bosses. Speaking of the tanking threat and Vengeance changes, here's Blizzard's more in-depth explanation of what was changed and why. Basically they're buffing tanks to the point where they hope that people will no longer need to use threat-tracking mods like Omen, cuz tanks will just be doing that much more threat. You still gotta give the tank a second or two to build their aggro on the mob, but once they do you shouldn't have to worry about pulling it from them. *disclaimer* This is assuming you're not playing with a crappy noob tank. Now for some juicy news. Gamescon is currently going on (it's basically E3 for the Europeans), and some Blizzard reps gave some nice info on what to expect in patch 4.3:
_________________________________________________________________________ News - August 16th 2011 - Free Shipping J!NX Offer So, um, news. Yeah. Wish I had some. All I can mention today is that J!NX has an offer for free shipping when you order $45+ worth of stuff. Just enter the promotional code LIGHTSOUT to get it. They do have a lot of WoW clothing so maybe this is a good time to do some early Christmas shopping. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 15th 2011 - "Nuh Uh, They Did It" Remember the news last week about North Korea using gold farmers to swarm over Korean MMOs to earn Kim Jong-il millions of dollars? Well surprise surprise, N. Korea is completely denying that they would do such a thing. They're even accusing South Korea of making up the whole story. It's astounding how horrible North Korea is at lying and thinking the rest of the world will just automatically believe them. That's about it for the news unless you're interested in reading a little more about the "duplicating harmful spell" equip effect of Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 12th 2011 - Blizzard's Teaser Pic Blizzard has got everyone chittering about a pic they posted to their Facebook page. As you can see there are some Ethereal NPCs but the thing that's got people speculating like crazy is the "role" of the left and center ones. There are all sorts of guesses being thrown around as to what Void Storage and Transmogrifier would mean. Whatever they are Blizzard isn't saying, so you're guess is as good as anyone else's. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 11th 2011 - Notes And Notes And Notes Holy cow. I think Blizzard remembered that they have a massively successful MMO earning them millions and that they should continue to pay attention to it. Cuz we gots news. First up, patch 4.2.2 is now on the PTR. There was a batch of notes datamined but most are just tooltip fixes for what's already in the game. Blizzard did release a much smaller list of official 4.2.2 notes but it's still nothing to get excited about. Most people are now thinking that this is a sign that 4.3 will be making its way to the PTR in the near future. There was also a new batch of hotfixes applied and unlike 4.2.2 these actually have some notes worth reading. And the world first creation of the final form of the new legendary Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest has finally been done by a toon named Siiz in the US guild Premonition. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 10th 2011 - Someone Call Hans Brix! Grayswindir provided this bit of news for today. It's a link to a "cool website that had some nifty easter eggs and bizzare locations" in Cataclysm. It's kind of neat to find these little out-of-the-way secrets that most players don't even know exist. Thanks Gray. And take Gray's example, if you have anything newsworthy let me know. Lord knows it's hard enough trying to find anything from the usual sources anymore. It seems that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il has delved into new, innovative ways of making a quick buck. Reports say he got a group of roughly 30 hackers to go after South Korean MMOs with the intent to do the usual gold farming, botting, etc. and make him some money. And it worked. Within 2 years they made about $6 million. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 9th 2011 - Big News: Patch 4.2.0a! We got a small bug patch yesterday. Nothing real big, but it did fix some errors and client crashes so I guess it's a good thing. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 8th 2011 - Stupid Frackin' News No news today. I'm not even going to waste my time trying to sugar coat it. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 5th 2011 - A Hotfix And A Hot Mount We haven't had a hotfix in some time so it doesn't annoy me to see that we just had a new one applied. It actually fixes a few things that were somewhat problematic. And the first guild to complete Glory of the Firelands Raider is the European guild Ascendance. For their efforts they got the Corrupted Egg of Millagazor mount _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 4th 2011 - The Numbers Drop Even More, But Think Positively It looks like Cataclysm isn't quite as interesting as Blizzard hoped. At least that's what can be assumed from the fact that they lost another 300,000 subscribers last quarter. When you add to that the 600,000 subscribers lost the previous quarter you get nearly 1 million people that quit playing WoW in the past 6 months. That's not a good thing, but there are still many millions more that are still playing and still paying. And their earnings for this last quarter were 53% higher than they expected, so it's not time to panic yet. Of course with the new Star Wars MMO coming out later this year I'm sure Blizzard is at least a little worried. On some lighter news, Blizzard has also making plans for the 4.3 patch. It will be released later this year. It will include "major raid and dungeon content" so we can expect at least one new raid and one new 5-man. And Blizzard is touting 4.3 as "the largest content update since Cataclysm". It'll be interesting to see if that is true or if it's just high hopes. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 3rd 2011 - Do The Pandas Cometh? WoW news. It's about stinkin' time. Blizzard has got everyone gossiping about the fact that yesterday they trademarked the term "Mists of Pandaria". Everyone's now thinking that this could be the title of the next WoW expansion, that it could finally be the appearance of the Pandaren in WoW, and that it could be officially announced at this year's BlizzCon. Of course it could also be a red herring to trick us. For now it's all just speculation. As part of their summer sale FigurePrints is offering free shipping on all WoW FigurePrints ordered until August 31st. If you've been waiting to order one then this could be just the right incentive for you. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 2nd 2011 - More Diablo 3 News... Sorry More news, but unfortunately it's more Diablo 3 news. I think D3 is going to be the focus of Blizzard's attention for a while, but as soon as any worthwhile WoW news pops up I'll be mentioning it. The beta for Diablo 3 should be starting within the next few weeks. In preparation Blizzard has released a FAQ about the beta that will hopefully answer any questions you may have about it. Although it's pretty much the same FAQ they use for WoW expansion betas. Returning to yesterday's news about the Diablo 3 AH involving cash money transactions, TotalBuscuit of Cynical Brit fame has a video discussing his thoughts on the new feature. He spends 15 minutes bringing up some very good points about the feature and it's really worth listening to. And you can just listen to it, the video playing while he talks is just footage of a StarCraft 2 multiplayer mod being played and has nothing to do with the audio. _________________________________________________________________________ News - August 1st 2011 - Cha-ching For The D3 Bling There is big news today... but it's not about WoW. Instead it's about Diablo 3. I know, this site is supposed to be about WoW and our guild, but there's nothing else going on and the D3 news is what most of the WoW sites are talking about anyways. The news is that Blizzard is adding a new feature to the Diablo 3 auction house. You will be able to buy and sell items on the D3 AH for either in-game gold or real life money. Yes, you could find some super nice piece of gear that you don't want and choose to sell it in the D3 AH for gold or you could put a dollar amount on it and if it sells you actually get the money. Same goes for buying items, if there's something you want it could be in the AH for a gold amount like we're used to or it could have a real price and you'd have to break out your pocketbook and spend real money to buy it. My initial thought on this is that it's not such a good idea, but we'll have to see how it turns out. |
