My mind is swiss cheese so I can't remember if you were the Chris in my
"work and workers in cinema" class last year at ND. No matter. A few
words of advice: if you really want to do this you should start writing
reviews as often as you can so you can build up a book of published
clips to show to potential employers. Talk to Professors O'Rourke or
Sayers in the Creative Writing program. Take a class. Work on your
style and grammar. Sharpen your critical skills. Read magazines
(Harpers, the New Yorker, the New York Review of Books). Check out Jim
Hoberman's film reviews in the Village Voice. He's a good reviewer.
Also teaches and writes books. Read George Orwell's essays and
criticism. Be prepared to work hard for little or no money. Set high
standards for yourself. Good Luck.
