Chris:

Wow, long time no see (probably about 12 years). Thanks for chiming in with
some excellent suggestions. To answer your questions:

No, you do not have to be a subscriber to submit mail to the list. But
non-subscriber mail does get filtered through the list manager (me) before
being distributed to the entire list. This is to protect from junk emailers
advertising "XXX Hot Babes" Websites on COTHALUM. I'll just pass those
messages directly on to Frank Mancini. :)

YES, IF YOU HATE ALL THIS EMAIL BUT STILL WANT TO OCCASIONALLY CONTRIBUTE
SOMETHING TO THE LIST, PLEASE TAKE FIVE SECONDS AND SEND A MESSAGE TO:
listserv@vma.cc.nd.edu

IN THE MESSAGE SIMPLY TYPE: set cothalum nomail

That's it! You won't get any more email. Then whenever you want to get
caught up, visit http://www.nd.edu/~cothweb/bbs And when you'd like to send
a message to the list send it to: cothalum@vma.cc.nd.edu

YES, there is a DIGEST form of the list. This means one email message that
will give you all the correspondences for a month. To receive the digest,
send a message to: LISTSERV@VMA.CC.ND.EDU In the message type: INDEX
COTHALUM

You'll receive a message with a choice of which month you'd like to read.
It will look like this:

* NOTEBOOK archives for the list
* (Monthly notebook)
* rec last - change
* filename filetype GET PUT -fm lrecl nrecs date time Remarks
* -------- -------- --- --- --- ----- ----- -------- --------
-------------------------------
COTHALUM LOG9710 PRV OWN V 79 332 97/10/31 17:32:19 Started on
Thu, 30 Oct 1997 20:12:09 -0500
COTHALUM LOG9711 PRV OWN V 323 1689 97/11/30 22:16:16 Started on
Sun, 2 Nov 1997 11:14:55 EST
COTHALUM LOG9712 PRV OWN V 111 1884 97/12/09 08:21:37 Started on
Mon, 1 Dec 1997 08:39:28 +0000

Then you send one more message to LISTSERV@VMA.CC.ND.EDU. In the message
you type: GET COTHALUM LOG9710

(That would get you the October messages. GET COTHALUM LOG 9711 would get
you November's messages and GET COTHALUM LOG 9712 would get you December's
mesages)

The problem that some of you are having when trying to SIGNOFF is that
you're typing from an email address other than the one your subscription is
listed under. This mainly applies to ND students. You must use your full
email address (Theodore.E.Mandell.1@nd.edu).

Finally if you're still having difficulties, PLEASE email me directly
(Mandell.1@nd.edu), not the mailing list, and I will solve all your
problems! Thanks for your patience.

Happy Holidays!
