Rev. Daniel E. Hall, M.D., M.Div

The Rev. Daniel E. Hall, M.D., M.Div is an Episcopal priest and physician working at the interface between faith and medicine.  He was the first John Templeton Fellow in Religion and Medicine at Duke University where his research focused on epistemology, moral philosophy, religious measurement, and the ways in which medical decision-making is influenced by religious and secular worldviews.  He is currently completing his residency in general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.  He has also served as a priest in churches in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.    He writes about the philosophical and theological challenges of applying the scientific method to the study of religion as well as the formation of moral character within the practice of medicine.  His writing aims to give physicians the philosophical tools to reclaim their responsibility and prerogative as moral agents in clinical decision-making.  He is also interested in framing the discussion within Christian churches regarding the often unexamined moral imperatives of modern healthcare—imperatives that may not be completely consonant with the Gospel.
