Project to Reduce the University Libraries' FY 2002/2003
Books and Journals Commitments
FAQ Page

Due to no increase in the university collection budget for the past two years, overall library materials inflation has outstripped the total materials budget. The 2001/2002 materials budget has been balanced using endowment income and unused portions of the library's budget. To balance the FY 2002/2003 materials budget, we will decrease the purchase of library books and journals by six percent. All library collection funds will be included in this process.

The library is not facing a budget cut. This project lowers our materials fund commitments so that we can cover future inflationary growth with our budget.

Cancellation Guidelines:

  1. Six percent of each discipline's total budget must be canceled for FY 2002/2003. This can be any combination of book and/or serial funds (endowment and university).

  2. Collection managers are asked to consult with their faculty during this process.

  3. No electronic journal packages will be canceled since they are acquired under multi-year contracts. Check the "Electronic Packages" link under "Important Links" to see if individual journals can be cancelled.

  4. We recommend that you don't rely on digital content provided by aggregators, such as Lexis-Nexis, as suitable replacement for paper-based content.
