Situated in northern Venezuela, this project looks at
the interaction between the obliquely colliding South American and Caribbean
plates. We use a combination of geophysical and geochemical data
to demonstrate the effects of the collision on the volcanics generated
across northern Venezuela. The present study has concentrated on
mafic and dacitic intrusives as well as perisotite massifs along the northern
coast. Geochemical data from the Falcon Basin (NW Venezuela) intrusives
are represented in the diagrams here. We collaborate with the Venezuelan
seismological institute and are about to expand our efforts into environmental
geochemistry.
