Activity Planning ResourcesEach semester, all mentors are required to plan one of their Buddy Family's weekly activities. We've compiled this checklist to help our mentors and take advantage of the resources on the state office's website.1. Formulate an idea. This can come from a professor you know, a club you're in, a friend, a job on campus, anything. If you are still fresh out of ideas, sample activities are available online. Go to the University Partner Log In. Enter the ND username and password. Click on the "Download College Mentors for Kids Materials and Resources" link. On the next page, click on the "Activity Documents" link and browse through the activity sheets. 2. Contact a speaker and come up with a hands-on activity for the children to do. 3. Write out a plan for timing. Speaker should talk for about 15 minutes. The hands on activity can take up the rest of that time or else a tour or something like that. Travel time, book, snack, and journal should take up the rest. See the online activity sheets or old activity sheets from us to get a feel for timing. 4. Click here and fill in the form with all the details of your activity. This is due TWO WEEKS (the Tuesday at midnight) before your activity. 5. If you have any ideas for a book or special supplies, make sure to list them and maybe even send Lindsey and Amanda an email about supplies so you can work out how they will be obtained (this is something more than just construction paper, popsicle sticks, and craft items which we have on hand). 6. Follow up with your speaker the week of the activity. Keep Lindsey or Amanda updated if there are any problems. 7. Have fun and be creative! This is your chance to share your favorite things about ND with your Little Buddy. Always feel free to contact Lindsey (ljones8@nd.edu) or Amanda (ahentz@nd.edu) with any questions or concerns. |
