After gels are stained and scanned on densitometer and Scan Wizard (if desired):
Soak an appropriate size top and bottom piece of cellophane in good water in a glass dish. Make sure that there is at least 3/4 inch border around all sides of gel.
You can mount up to 3 gels on one length of cellophane if they are related.
You can dry several at a time on the dryer, even if they are arranged on separate pieces of cellophane.
Layer the cellophane on the
following stack: Teflon coated, perforated plate, then:
.............................................................................................Heavy
filter paper liner (can reuse a lot of times)
Smooth the bottom piece of cellophane and center the gel(s).
Cover gently with the upper (top) layer of cellophane, working out any air bubbles.
Top with the mylar cover sheet and then the thin rubber overlay.
Make sure stack fits within the bed of dryer.
Press time/temp button once
and set the temp to 80ºC.
Press again to set time using the up button set to 1 hr for 7.5%/1mm thick (longer
for thicker)
Press time/temp again to start the vacuum and dryer.
Make sure running fine before walking away, ie. seals down on vacuum, pump sounds good. It will beep when done and will continue vacuum for 10 minutes for cool down and beeps again.
Do not run gel dryer overnight.
Mount on white paper with the ID tag and information. Put in gel Binder with weights to prevent curling.
