I'm glad you agreed to add another defense to your busy trial schedules. It's a pretty standard lead poisoning case. The boss thinks the prosecution will have a try with Title X and maybe Title VIII; it is unfortunate that they have such a sympathetic victim to show the jury. Look into the case law (you should be able to find some law review articles on Lexis/Nexis, and it should not be too much work if you split them up) and see how we're going to counter either or both of these approaches. You should be prepared to discuss the legal issues and question our resident experts.

You must give Professor Judith Fox at the Notre Dame Law School a call ASAP. She has a lot of practical experience with landlord/tenant law, and she is willing to meet with your team this week or early next week to introduce you to the relevant cases and discuss your legal strategy. I would appreciate receiving regular informal updates about your legal strategy via email.

Since you are still at the beginning of your employment with Brillig, Mome, and Rath, we will require each of you to write a standard three-page report after the trial. Just to remind you, this report should 1) describe the legal arguments raised by the prosecution and defense, and 2) evaluate the success of these arguments with the jury.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I would like to hire three lawyers to defend me in an upcoming court case. One of my tenants is bringing a suit under Title X of the Civil Rights Act because his child had a slightly elevated blood lead level. In 1997, when the tenant first rented from me, I informed him there might be lead in the home, and he signed the lease, so the case should be pretty straightforward.
