We are investigating ways of fabricating highly regimented
nanoporous material by alumina anodization. The mechanism behind the hexagonal
pore formation has been deciphered and the pore dimensions can now be
correlated directly to the applied voltage and to the electrolyte composition.
Pores with diameters ranging from 20 to 200 nm and with depths upto microns
can be fabricated. We are currently improving the regularity of the pores.
This research is in collaboration with Professor A.E. Miller's group.
