Research Interests Dr. Kerr does
not currently have a research program, but she works closely with the
undergraduates in the Civil Engineering and Geological Sciences as
the advisor of Notre Dame's student chapter of the American Society
of Civil Engineering (ASCE). The students work on projects such as
the concrete canoe and steel bridge throughout the school year and
compete against 18 other teams at the Great Lakes Regional conference
every spring. The steel bridge competition requires students to design,
build, construct, and load a steel bridge based on the project specifications.
The students are then judged on aesthetics, construction speed, efficiency,
and cost. The concrete canoe team designs, builds and races a concrete
canoe that floats. The canoe team is judged on aesthetics, race time,
presentation, and a technical paper.
