Both the undergraduate and graduate programs in Environmental Geosciences within the Department of Civil Engineering and Geological Sciences benefit from their location within the College of Engineering. Our students obtain a unique perspective by combining geoscience, hydrological science, and environmental engineering coursework and research, and the program provides exceptional training in advanced quantitative and analytical chemistry approaches. The department has particularly strong research programs in environmental geochemistry, geomicrobiology, nanogeology, environmental actinide mineralogy and crystal chemistry, mantle petrology and large igneous provinces, origin and evolution of the Moon, and remote sensing of environmental conditions on Earth and other planetary surfaces.
